At a challenging time for food outlets, one thing that’s keeping the sector ticking over is an ever-growing appetite for new cuisines.

British classics rebooted: Add a global twist to comforting favourites

An increased adventurousness is driving growth in the restaurant market, according to new research from MCA.[1] So this autumn, help customers keep warm by adding a globally-inspired twist to British classic dishes.

Reboot the classic comfort food – big, hearty, savoury dishes like cauliflower cheese, roast dinners, nourishing soups and wholesome stews.

Add Pan-Asian flavour to roast pork or lamb with a warming Asian ginger, chilli and garlic sticky sauce, or give a hearty fish pie a Mexican touch, with juicy king prawns marinated in Habanero Hot Sauce.

A traditional beef stew goes Moroccan with the spice and warmth of Middle Eastern Hot Sauce, served with flatbread, seasoned chickpeas and a cool yogurt dip.

Crank up the flavour in a classic chicken pie with Japanese Teriyaki BBQ Sauce.

Try cauliflower cheese baked with South Carolina BBQ Sauce, served with sweet potato fries and a blue cheese dip.

Bring a taste of Brazil to your winter warmers menu with a tasty and filling feijoada - a stew packed with black beans, pork, bacon and chorizo, or a vegan version with marinated tofu or tempeh instead of meat. Add a dash of Maple and Bourbon BBQ Sauce for a rich, smoky touch.

Spice up your soup menu with a Middle Eastern Shakshuka, served in a bowl, a large mug or a takeaway tub with flatbread or pitta for dipping. This recipe makes it super simple .

This is the perfect time to make your dishes more tempting and satisfying than ever, with cost-conscious customers plumping only for a main course. MCA figures show 52% of customers are skipping starters and puddings – even more reason to make these autumn mains really count!
