2020 menu inspiration: The trends to take note of

Festive feasting may be in full flow, but already many caterers will have mapped out menus for 2020.

So, what can we expect to see? Here are our top three ‘ones to watch’ and how Whirl can help you deliver them …

More plant power!

The rise of veganism has undoubtedly been the most influential food trend in recent years. According to The Vegan Society, the number of vegans in Great Britain quadrupled between 2014 and 2019 – meaning it’s more important than ever before to have a number of tempting vegan options on the menu.

Creativity has led the way, with cutting edge chefs dreaming up delicious recipes to cater for plant-based diners, but there has also been a surge in NPD in food ingredients to enable chefs and caterers to create fresh new dishes to attract customers.

Why Whirl? Our Unsalted Vegan Whirl is a great example of a new vegan ingredient making the creation of plant-based meals easy for caterers. Use it to whip up a tasty Butter Curry. Serve with steamed rice for the perfect winter warmer.

Healthy food = happy diners

Around 43% of the UK population are eating and drinking more healthily compared to five years ago, according to MCA’s UK Eating Out Market Report 2019. Consumers care about what’s in their food, which is why healthy ingredients are a quick win.

Why Whirl? Compared with butter, Whirl is 65% lower in saturated fat, twice as high in monounsaturated fats and five times as high in polyunsaturated fats. No Added Salt Whirl has been developed to meet the increasing demand for lower sodium diets. It contains only 0.2% salt - helpful for those watching their salt intake.

Grab and go

Grab and go food accounts for almost a quarter of the turnover for the total eating out market, according to the 2019 Food to go Market Report from MCA & HIM. Speed is key, to serve those with busy lifestyles, which is why caterers need high-quality ingredients that can cut time in the kitchen.

Why Whirl? Melting large quantities of butter for dishes can be very time consuming – and customers don’t usually want to wait. Whirl provides a much quicker, easier alternative – helping to free up resources, increasing kitchen output and cutting waiting times.
